Constitution of Churches Together in Brightlingsea

1 NAME Churches Together in Brightlingsea (CTB).

 

2 BASIS CTB shall be "a fellowship of churches which confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the Scriptures and, therefore, seek to fulfil together their common calling to the glory of one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit" in accordance with Churches Together in England / Great Britain.

 

3 ASSOCIATION CTB shall be associated with Churches Together in Essex and East London.

 

4 OBJECTS

a) To draw the churches represented into greater understanding and unity.

b) To enable the churches more fully to share in the ecumenical movement.

c) To enable the churches to bear a more united witness in the community and to serve it more effectively.

d) To give such expression to their common faith and devotion as may from time to time be found desirable.

 

5 MEMBERSHIP

a) CTB shall consist of representatives from each local church in the area which affirms the basis and desires to promote the objects and share the work of CTB. These representatives shall be the clergy and ministers and up to three others from each participating church.

b) CTB may co-opt other members not being more than a quarter of the representative membership.

c) Representatives from other Christian bodies may be invited to attend meetings as observers.

 

6 OFFICERS The officers shall be a Chairman and Vice-Chairman, an Honorary Treasurer, and an Honorary Secretary, to be elected at the annual meeting. Should there be no nominee for one or any of these positions, then acting officer(s) may be nominated for the time being.

 

7 MEETINGS CTB shall meet not less than three times annually. The Spring meeting shall be the annual meeting at which the accounts shall be presented, officers elected and annual reports submitted.

 

8 FINANCE Each participating church shall be asked to contribute an annual sum, to be determined from time to time, to the expenses of CTB.

 

9 AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION CTB shall have power to amend the constitution, but the representatives of any church shall have the right to require that any proposed amendment be submitted to the member churches.
